About The Owner
I recevied my B.A in Applied Learning and Development (Elementary Education) from the University of Texas at Austin (my hometown!) in December 2007. Not wanting to go into teaching mid school year, I sought an office job to tide me over until the following fall. I stumbled upon an entry-level medical billing position and fell in love with it, so I decided to see where that career path would lead. In the years since, I have gained experience on all aspects of the healthcare revenue cycle - contracting, credentialing, insurance benefit verification, billing, A/R management, appeals, patient collections and revenue reporting. I have also earned an AAPC Certified Professional Biller (CPB) certification.
I have worked in a variety of industries - Pediatric PT/OT/ST, DME, mental health and substance abuse, otolaryngology, dermatology and ABA. Over half of my career has been spent in the pediatric therapy realm (physical, occupational, speech and ABA therapy). In this space, I find a marriage of my two passions - helping children thrive and working within healthcare revenue cycle management to lower patient costs while maximizng provider reimbursement.
So much goes into the back end of providing children medically necessary care. The contracting, credentialing, rate negotiations, claim submissions and insurance battles often go unseen by patients, but without these components, providing them with the care they need would be impossible. My philosophy is that providers should be fairly reimbursed for providing quality clinical care, but patients shouldn't bear unneccesary or excessive portions of this cost. Reimbursement rates from insurance companies need to be fair and competitive. Denials from insurance companies that un-necessarily result in the provider not getting paid or the patient having to pay out of pocket when the service is a covered benefit should be minimized. That's where I come in - I will work to get providers fairly reimbursed for their services and make sure the patient isn't paying portions of that cost that the insurance company should cover.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my 13 year old German Shepherd mix, Trixie Belle. I adopted her when she was 7 weeks old and she serves as the Co-Founder and Chief Treat Advisor for TLC Credentialing and Consulting.
